World Swim Day

CELEBRATE THE PASSION
FOR SWIMMING

On October 22nd of every year

Why October 22nd?

Gertrude Ederle, an American swimmer who accomplished a historic feat, was born on October 22nd.

On August 6, 1926, she set off from Cap Gris-Nez, France, at 7:05 am and arrived in Kingsdown, England, after 14 hours and 34 minutes, a record that broke the previous one held by the Argentinian Enrique Tiraboschi by over two hours.

It was the first time a woman crossed the English Channel by swimming.
